Calculation of bolt tensile strength

38a0b9234

Bearing capacity = strength x area

Bolt has screw thread, M24 bolt cross section area is not 24 diameter circle area, but 353 square mm, called effective area.

The tensile strength of ordinary bolts of class C (4.6 and 4.8) is 170N/ sq. mm
Then the bearing capacity is: 170×353 = 60010N.
According to the stress of the connection: divided into ordinary and hinged holes. By head shape cent: have hexagon head, round head, square head, countersunk head and so on. Hexagon head is the most commonly used. The countersunk head is usually used where connection is required
Riding bolt English name is u-bolt, non-standard parts, shape is u-shaped so it is also known as u-shaped bolt, both ends of the thread can be combined with the nut, mainly used to fix the tube such as water pipe or plate like the spring of the car, because of the way to fix things like people riding on horses, so called riding bolt. According to the length of thread into full thread and non – full thread two categories.
According to the thread of the teeth are divided into two categories of coarse teeth and fine teeth, coarse teeth in the bolts do not show. The bolts are classified into 3.6, 4.8, 5.6, 6.8, 8.8, 9.8, 10.9 and 12.9 according to the performance grade. The bolts above 8.8 grade (including 8.8 grade) are made of low carbon alloy steel or medium carbon steel and have undergone heat treatment (quenching and tempering). They are generally called high-strength bolts and below 8.8 grade (excluding 8.8 grade) are generally called ordinary bolts
Ordinary bolts can be divided into A, B and C grades according to the production accuracy. A and B grades are refined bolts and C grades are coarse bolts. For steel structure connection bolts, unless specially noted, generally ordinary coarse C class bolts
